How to choose an industrial vacuum
Choosing an industrial vacuum starts with the material to be picked up and the daily quantity, not with motor power.
1. What are you vacuuming?
Dry dust, fine dust, heavy debris, liquids, oil with swarf? The answer rules out some options straight away. For liquids you need a wet/dry model; for oil with swarf, a machine with separation.
2. How much and how often?
The daily quantity determines the container capacity and the type of motor. A vacuum used for a few minutes a day has different requirements from one that works a full shift.
3. How fine is the dust?
For fine dust, the filter area and the filtration class matter. A filter that is too small clogs quickly, and suction power drops.
4. What power supply do you have?
Single-phase models work from any socket. Three-phase models allow continuous operation but need a suitable installation.
5. How mobile does it need to be?
A vacuum that is moved between floors or rooms should be light and compact. For a fixed workstation, weight matters less.
6. Are there special safety requirements?
Combustible dust, potentially explosive atmospheres or hazardous substances require certified equipment. Do not improvise in these situations.
An example checklist
- Material: sanding dust + water from wet cleaning
- Quantity: daily, about one hour
- Space: workshop, several areas
- Conclusion: commercial wet/dry vacuum with 2–3 motors, for example the Tennant V-WD-62 or V-WD-72
